    GYNECOMASTIA

    MALE BREAST HYPERTROPHY SURGERY

    DEFINITION

Gynecomastia, also called male breast enlargement, refers to excess mammary gland and/or fat in men. Excessive breast development in a man is a combination of fat and gland, with varying proportions. This excessive development of the 2 breasts, or of only one, can appear from puberty or exist from childhood.

    GOALS

The purpose of gynecomastia is to correct the often badly tolerated unsightly appearance of a male figure.

    ANESTHESIA

Gynecomastia requires general anesthesia. If it is only excess fat, liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia.

    INTERVENTION

The intervention consists in reducing the volume of the male chest by removing, depending on the case, the excess fat by liposuction, and the excess of mammary gland by an incision at the periphery of the areola: removal of the glandular nucleus via the lower hemi-areolar approach.

    DURATION OF INTERVENTION/ CLINIC STAY

    intervention duration

Gynecomastia lasts between 1h and 1h30 approximately. A one-day hospitalization, on an outpatient basis, may be sufficient.

    RESULTS

The result of gynecomastia is instantaneous. However, the final result is generally appreciable 2 to 3 months after the intervention.

  • Gynecomastia is a frequent pathology. It is called "physiological" gynecomastia when it is constitutional, ie when no cause is found. On the other hand, there are drug treatments and pathologies that can lead to an excess of the mammary gland in men. It will therefore be necessary to carry out an assessment in order to rule out possible pathologies (obesity, testicular cancer, hormonal problem, breast tumor).

  • OPERATIVE FOLLOW-UPS

You will wear a compression bandage to maintain even pressure on the chest. Moderate pain may be present following the procedure and relieved by analgesics. The postoperative course is essentially marked by the appearance of edema (swelling) and bruises (bruises), the size and duration of which vary from one individual to another. The bruises and edema disappear a few weeks after the operation, as do the scars. Transient insensitivity may be observed in the nipples.
